Under the Law
Myth. The bride of Messiah will only be those who are Torah
obedient, meaning keeping the law of Moses (Sinai covenant).
In Revelation
there are two passages which some suggest are stating what the
myth states:
Revelation 12:17
And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make
war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the
commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus
Christ.
Revelation 14:12 Here is the
patience of the saints: here are they that keep the
commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
The testimony of
Jesus is knowing Him as Savior and Lord, and declaring Him
before men. Keeping the commandments of God encompasses that and
keeping His Words and that which is written on our hearts,
including the acknowledgment of the New Covenant and all it
holds. Keeping the commandments of God are the ones that
Jesus clarified for us in many passages, and which are also
found in the writings of the apostles.
Contrary to what those in Hebrew Roots maintain, keeping His
words written on the heart does not mean Torah or the law of
Moses. The word commandments in Revelation 12 and 14, is
entole which is a general command and does not mean nomos,
which means Law.

From G1781; injunction, that is, an
authoritative prescription: - commandment, precept.
As believers, we
are to follow what Jesus has now instructed us to do. For
examples of the New Testament commandments:
Matthew 22:36-40 Master, which is the great commandment
in the law? 37. Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the
Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and
with all thy mind. 38. This is the first and great
commandment. 39. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt
love thy neighbour as thyself. 40. On these two commandments
hang all the law and the prophets.
Mat 5:22 But I say unto you, That
whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be
in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his
brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but
whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell
fire.
Matthew 5:27-28 Ye
have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt
not commit adultery: 28.
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to
lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in
his heart.
Paul admonished
the Corinthians and we should heed what he said:
2Corinthians
11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled
Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted
from the simplicity that is in Christ.
Some suggest that the apostle Paul is simply misunderstood
when he stated that, "you are not under the law, but
under grace.":
Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield
yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey;
whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17 But God be thanked, that ye were the
servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine
which was delivered you.
Those
proponents
advocating keeping the law or claiming they do keep it,
need to reconcile the following. If one reviews the 613 Mitzvot
[commandments], upon initial examination, it is plain to see that many
of the laws can not be kept by Jews living outside of
Israel, or even in Israel, because there is
currently no
Temple. There has been discussion on this, and
some have stated that less than 300 of the 613
can be kept by Jews in diaspora. Practicing Jews will tell you that the
613 are not for the non-Jews to observe.
Paul wrote to the Galatians,
that those who lived under the law were bound to keep all of it
or receive the promised curses for not. Those who live by faith,
are the ones who are the children of Abraham:
Galatians 3:7 Know ye therefore that
they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.
8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would
justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto
Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.
9 So then
they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.
10 For as many as are of the works of the
law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that
continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to
do them.
11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for,
The just shall live by faith.
12
And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.
13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of
the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every
one that hangeth on a tree:
That means that if you
wish to live according to the "613", one
cannot pick and choose, you have to uphold all of those
laws. Now, as stated above, less than 300 can even be
considered for those outside of Israel. Since to be
Torah Observant, while also under grace, does not allow
one to pick and choose which "laws" one
adheres to and which proponents call, the
instructions to be followed, including all dietary laws,
and so on.
In the Torah, the law of Moses
was given to the children of Israel, not to any Gentiles:
Deu 4:44
And this is the law which Moses set before the children of
Israel:
45 These are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the
judgments, which Moses spake unto the children of Israel,
after they came forth out of Egypt,
Deu 29:1
These are the words of the covenant, which the LORD
commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the
land of Moab, beside the covenant which he made with them in
Horeb.
Nehemiah 9:13. Thou camest down also upon mount Sinai,
and spakest with them from heaven, and gavest them right
judgments, and true laws, good statutes and commandments:
14. And madest known unto them thy holy sabbath, and
commandedst them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand
of Moses thy servant:
So for those not of Israel the
only way they can embrace the law of Moses as theirs is to claim
they are from a lost tribe which they have no proof of.
Or, that they have attached themselves to Israel, as a
sojourner. In order to become a sojourner, one had to become
circumcised and become a part of Israel, all of which
emphatically ended with Christ.
When Paul and Silas, in Acts
16:22-29, spoke to the Roman jailer that was going to kill
himself because he thought they had escaped the prison, the law
of Moses never became an issue:
Act 16:30
And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be
saved?
31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and
thou shalt be saved, and thy house. 32 And they spake
unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his
house.
Act 16:33
And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed
their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his,
straightway.
34 And
when he had
brought them into his house, he set meat before them,
and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.
There was nothing there that
stated the requirement to be circumcised, or having to become a
sojourner with Israel or keep the Law of Moses. In fact, we see
that the Roman jailer believed Christ, was baptized, and took
them into his house--the unclean Roman was now clean in
Christ--and they had meat with him, keeping in mind that Romans
ate pork as a staple. That was totally against the law of Moses,
as was eating with him.
When Jesus was crucified, two
criminals were crucified as well. And through that exchange with
them while on the cross, because the one believed who Christ
was, Jesus said he would be with Him in paradise that day.
Luke 23:39-43 And one of the malefactors which were
hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save
thyself and us. 40. But the other answering rebuked
him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou
art in the same condemnation? 41. And we indeed justly; for
we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath
done nothing amiss. 42. And
he said unto Jesus, Lord,
remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. 43.
And Jesus said unto
him, Verily I say unto thee,
To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
Was this criminal told he missed out because
he was not keeping keeping the law of Moses? He believed Christ,
and obtained salvation. That was the commandment.
1 John 3:23-24 And
this is
his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his
Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us
commandment. 24. And he that keepeth his commandments
dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he
abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
Jesus said to Nicodemus, a
Pharisee and ruler of the Jews, that he could not see or enter
the kingdom of God unless he was born again. Jesus didn't say he
needed to keep the law of Moses in order to see or enter the
kingdom of God.
John 3:3-7 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily,
verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again,
he cannot see
the kingdom of God.
4. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he
is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb,
and be born? 5. Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto
thee, Except a
man be born of water and of the Spirit,
he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which
is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7. Marvel not that I said
unto thee, Ye must be born again.
Let's take a look at some of the required
issues, that many who claim to be "Torah Observant" say
they adhere to. The question is, how
Torah Observant are they?
On the issue of
lying to others and other basics, that Torah Observant
leadership make claim to be following:
Leviticus 19: 11 Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.
13 Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning.
14 Thou shalt not curse the deaf, nor put a stumblingblock before the blind,
but shalt fear thy God: I am the LORD.
15 Ye shall do no unrighteousness in
judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the
person of the mighty:
but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.
16 Thou shalt not go up and down as a
talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood
of thy neighbour: I am the LORD.
17 Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.
18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge
against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.
On the issue of
false
prophets, meaning someone who claims to speak a prophecy
on behalf of God, knowing it must be 100% accurate. That
would then include many in Hebrew Roots and Christianity in the
category of Biblically and "law" defined,
false prophet. What are the requirements for someone who
is Torah Observant, to fully obey the law in this
matter? Deuteronomy 13, 18.
How about the issue of
adultery and fornication, which again, would involve
people claiming to be Torah Observant, including
leadership? What
is to be done if one is to be Torah Observant?
Leviticus
20:10 And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife,
even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the
adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.
How about obedience in teaching the "law", on a son that
is rebellious and doesn't obey or respect his parents?
Deuteronomy 21:
18
If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the
voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they
have chastened him, will not hearken unto them:
19 Then shall his father and his mother lay
hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the
gate of his place;
20 And they shall say unto the elders of his
city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our
voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.
21 And all the men of his city shall stone
him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among
you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.
Leviticus
20:9 For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be
surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood
shall be upon him.
The Apostle Paul stated:
Gal 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written,
Cursed is every one that continueth not in
all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
The apostle James said this:
James 2:8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
Doesn't the very commandment that those
advocating that we keep the law of Moses state:
Deuteronomy 4:1-2 Now
therefore hearken, O
Israel, unto the
statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to
do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess
the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you. 2.
Ye shall not
add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye
diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the
commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.
Deu 12:32 What thing soever I command you, observe to do
it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.
Jesus said, before He was crucified and the law nailed to the
cross and before the New Covenant was fully enacted:
Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth
pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the
law, till all be fulfilled. 19 Whosoever therefore shall
break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men
so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven:
but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same
shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
And doesn't it also say in other
Scriptures---not to add to or change the Word of God? Meaning
changing what James and the other apostles taught when they said
they did not command the keeping of the law of Moses--to being a
requirement, is changing the Word of God.
Proverbs 30:5-6 Every word of God
is
pure: he is
a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

Add thou not unto his words,
lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
Referring specifically to the Book of
Revelation:
Revelation 22:18-19 For I testify unto every man that
heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any
man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the
plagues that are written in this book: 19. And if any man
shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy,
God shall take away his part out of the book of life,
and out of the holy city, and from the things which
are written in this book.
In order to not change the Word then,
we need to understand it, and these verses being misused to
bring people back under the law of Moses:
Revelation 12:17
And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make

commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus
Christ.
Revelation 14:12 Here is the
patience of the saints: here are they that keep the
commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
The Law of Moses
Versus The Truth of the Gospel
Let's look closely at the following
Scriptures, starting with Galatians 2. We see that Paul mentions
James, Cephas (Peter) and John who had received and acknowledged
his call by God, and sent Barnabas with him to the Gentiles,
while they went to the Jews. Previously, Peter had been called
to take the gospel to the Gentiles and it is here that we see
the first major altercation over the truth of the Gospel and
keeping the law of Moses. .
Galatians 2:9-16 9And when James, Cephas, and
John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was
given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands
of fellowship; that we
should go
unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision. 10.
Only they would that we should remember the poor; the
same which I also was forward to do.
We see how Peter was living as a Gentile,
until other Jews arrived. Meaning---Peter (along with those Jews
with him) wasn't keeping the law of Moses. Then he separated
from them and wanted the Gentiles to live as the Jews, because
of the presence of fellow Jewish believers. The dispute caused
Barnabas to also become party to that thinking. Prior to that he
walked with Paul in agreement.
Galatians 2:11.
But when
Peter was
come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because
he was to be blamed.
12. For before that certain
came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when
they were come, he withdrew and separated himself,
fearing them which were of the circumcision.
13. And the other
Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that
Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.
Paul rebuked them all for their hypocrisy and
not understanding what being justified by faith in Christ meant,
nor understanding or walking according to the "truth of the
gospel":
Galatians 2:14.
But when I saw that they walked
not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel,
I said unto Peter before
them all,
If thou, being a
Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles,
and not as do the Jews,
why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as
do the Jews?
15. We who are Jews
by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,
16. Knowing that
a man is not justified by the
works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ,
even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be
justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of
the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be
justified.
Galatians 2:17-21 But if, while we seek to be
justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners,
is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.
18. For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I
make myself a transgressor.
19. For I through the law
am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. 20.
I am crucified with
Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in
me: and the life
which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son
of God, who loved
me, and gave himself for me. 21.
I do not frustrate the grace
of God: for if
righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in
vain.
This passage has
been much twisted and rewritten or omitted by those within
Hebrew Roots. So let's take a close look at what is said, and
the implications. Because for many, overturning these passages
is the only way to justify the claim we are to continue to keep the law of
Moses.
Peter, Paul,
Barnabas and any other Jews with them along with the Gentiles,
were all not keeping the law of Moses, as they shared the gospel
with Gentiles--before the Acts 15 council, which is also a major
passage that gets twisted to serve the doctrine. Some suggest
the council took place because of this very incident in
Galatians. Regardless, we know that Paul made it clear that he
became a Jew to the Jews in order to win them to Christ, and he
became as a Gentile when winning Gentiles to Christ.
These verses
clearly state that "Peter, "although
a
Jew, was living after the manner of Gentiles,"
and "not as do the Jews,", meaning
Peter was living as gentiles live and was not being "Torah
observant" And so to
were Paul, Barnabas, Silas and others. But it was Jewish
believers who did not understand "the truth of the gospel"
according to Paul, and caused Peter and other Jewish believers
to advocate that Gentiles needed to be circumcised and keep the
law of Moses. That is why the strong rebuke against their
behavior and hypocrisy. They did not comprehend what the New
Covenant really meant, and what they advocated overturned the
issue of faith.
Paul said in
Philippians 3, that he counted his Jewishness, his heritage, his
status as a Pharisee, his righteousness by the law---everything
loss, and dung-- he counted those things which seemed so
important and gain---to become loss for the cross of Christ:
Philippians 3:4-9 Though I might also have confidence in
the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof
he might trust in the flesh, I more: 5. Circumcised the
eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of
Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law,
a Pharisee; 6. Concerning zeal, persecuting the church;
touching the righteousness which is in the law,
blameless. 7. But
what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for
Christ. 8. Yea
doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the
excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for
whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count
them but dung, that I may win Christ, 9. And be found
in him, not having
mine own righteousness, which is of the law,
but
that which is through the
faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
As we see, by
Acts 15, when it all came to a head again, there was
understanding of living for Christ and not through the keeping
of the law of Moses, which commandments were nailed to the
cross. It's about faith. In point of fact, the
apostles and elders of the church dealt with this issue specifically,
and notice Peter said that there was no difference between Jews
and Gentiles, in how they are saved and how they should live.
Acts15:5 But
there rose up
certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying,
That it was needful to circumcise them,
and to command them to keep the law of Moses.
6 And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.
7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren,
ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel,
and believe.
8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness,
giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; 9
And
put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
10 Now therefore why tempt ye God,
to put a yoke
upon the neck of the disciples,
which neither
our fathers nor we
were able to bear?
11 But
we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.
In verse 17, please notice
that the "residue of men" who "might seek after the Lord" is
referring to the Jews, and it is followed by including,
"all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called".
This dispels the argument that the promised new covenant, which
some say was given to include only the house of Israel and
house of Judah (from Jeremiah 31), included an invitation by
God, to the Gentiles, and the prophets confirmed that, as noted
by James. It also dispels the notion that the nation of Israel
was not given opportunity to know Christ and accept salvation
through Him:
Acts 15:13 And after they had held their peace,
James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:
14. Simeon hath
declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to
take out of them a people for his name.
15. And to this agree the
words of the prophets; as it is written, 16. After this
I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of
David, which is fallen down; and I will build again
the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: 17.
That the residue of men might
seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name
is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.
18. Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of
the world. 19.
Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which
from among the Gentiles are turned to God:
20. But that we write unto them, that they abstain from
pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and
from things strangled, and from blood. 21. For
Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him,
being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.
Acts 15:24-27 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain
which went out from us have troubled you with words,
subverting your souls,
saying,
Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we
gave no such commandment:
25. It seemed good unto us,
being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto
you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, 26. Men that
have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ. 27. We have sent therefore Judas and Silas,
who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.
28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you
no greater burden than these necessary things;
29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and
from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which
if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.
How dare anyone add to the Word of God
and teachings given by the Holy Spirit to the apostles
and therefore to us in this written Word, to overturn
what was specifically stated and very clearly
stated---that no one was commanded to keep the law of
Moses any longer (which includes keeping the feasts and sabbath)
and those that did teach that, were subverting the
souls of those they taught!
How dare anyone overturn what was stated very
clearly by James and the other apostles and elders of the
church--and add to and change the Word of God--and say we are
required to keep the law of Moses?
Some teach that because verse 21 speaks of
having those who preach Moses in every city throughout the ages,
being read in the synagogues every sabbath day, that means they
believed the Gentiles would eventually learn the law of Moses,
and keep it, by going to the synagogues. That the four things
being given them as necessary were just the beginning of the
changes required to serve Christ and be saved.
The Jews already knew to keep themselves from
idolatry, blood and immorality since they heard Moses preached
in the synagogues every Sabbath. But the Gentiles with no
knowledge of Judaism or the God of Israel were a blank slate.
They did not know any of these basic things. Hence the need for
some major recommendations. Then they were taught about Christ
crucified and the things the apostles were called and inspired
to teach with the new epistles and gospels, to the law and the
prophets which pointed to Christ. To teach the New Covenant
promised by God, which would be different than the one given to
'the fathers' through Moses, according to the Scriptures.
That thinking about verse 21 would
overturn the concept of what James responded with concerning them
being told they needed to be circumcised and keep the law, that
is, it was subverting their souls. In fact, it would overturn
what Paul and Peter stated concerning the truth of the gospel,
and they themselves were not living as the Jews, that is, not
keeping the law of Moses, but the laws of Christ. Paul wrote
very clearly the effect of hearing the law of Moses had, since
Christ died on the cross, and removed the law out of the way.
The law was, 'the ministration of death", and glorious at the
time. But the ministration of the spirit is far more glorious,
to the point of making the previous glory of the law to have no
glory in comparison to Christ.
2 Corinthians 3:7-17 But if the ministration of death,
written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that
the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face
of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory
was to be done away: 8. How shall not the ministration of
the spirit be rather glorious? 9. For if the ministration
of condemnation be glory, much more doth the
ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. 10. For
even that which was made glorious had no glory in this
respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.
11. For if
that
which is done away was glorious,
much more that which remaineth is glorious.
12. Seeing then that we
have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: 13. And
not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that
the children of Israel could not stedfastly look
to the end of that which
is abolished: 14.
But their minds were
blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail
untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which
vail is done away in Christ.
15. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the
vail is upon their heart. 16. Nevertheless
when it shall turn to the
Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
17. Now the Lord is that
Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there
is liberty.
Further, the most important passage in the law
of Moses that needed to be applied was this:
Deuteronomy 18:15-19 The LORD thy God will raise up unto
thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like
unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; 16. According to all

Hebrews 1:1-2 God, who at sundry times and in divers
manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
2. Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his
Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom
also he made the worlds;
Let's look closer at this passage in Acts 15,
that gets so distorted and twisted. Peter said the Gentiles were
no different than Jewish believers, and were made clean by faith
in Christ, which is the true circumcision of the heart, not the
body. He then asked why did any of them expect to put the yoke
on Gentiles that the fathers couldn't bear---and which they--the
Jewish believers including the apostles-- couldn't bear. Notice
that--it was meaning those from the time of Moses to then, and
they as Jews were not able to bear that yoke; no one could
keep it perfectly. So why expect Gentiles to? And notice
Peter said, "... put no difference between us and them,
purifying their hearts by faith. Now therefore why
tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the
disciples..." In other words, who did they think they were
to challenge and try to change the message and Truth of the
Gospel and the New Covenant, and try to burden new believers
with the yoke that was taken away with Christ dying on the
cross. And the truth that faith from Christ causes circumcision
of the heart, and cleanses that which was unclean. For all. Jew
and Gentile.
What was the yoke in question? What was being
discussed? Circumcision and commanding the keeping of the law of
Moses. That was the yoke the fathers nor they could bear.
The yoke was not something else as some try to
say. Many Messianics and Hebrew Roots proponents like to say
that the yoke was the "oral law". But "fathers" in that text is
defined as the fathers of Israel, meaning ancestors to those at
Mt Sinai where the law was given to the children of Israel. The
contrast of the burden of that yoke that Peter said the fathers
nor they could bear, is found with Jesus saying,
Matthew 11:28-30 Come unto me, all ye that labour
and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29. Take my
yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in
heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30. For my
yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
The yoke of the law was not on Abraham, but on
Moses and the people of the covenant. Paul encouraged against
being caught up in trying to keep the law of Moses by comparing
it to being entangled with the "yoke of bondage."
Galatians 5:1-4 Stand fast therefore in the liberty
wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled
again with the yoke of bondage. 2. Behold, I Paul say unto
you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you
nothing. 3. For I testify again to every man that is
circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. 4.
Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are
justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
Circumcision, as part of the discussed issues
in Acts 15, did not come from the law of Moses, but was given to
Abraham, after the promise was given to him by God and before he
was circumcised. So that all those who walked by faith could be
heirs of the promise. Circumcision became part of the continuing
covenant with Abraham under the Mosaic law, but the promise had
nothing to do with the law of Moses, other than to point to
Christ and be a shadow of what was to come.
Rom 4:13 For the promise,
that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham,
or to his seed, through the law, but through the
righteousness of faith.
Act 3:25 Ye are the
children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made
with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall
all the kindreds of
the earth be blessed.
Paul made it clear he no longer preached
circumcision, which was required for Jews under the law, and
which is why he was persecuted. If he was teaching circumcision
and keeping the law, there would have been no need to persecute
any Christians, because the offence which came by the cross and
all it meant, would be gone.
Galatians 5:6-14 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision
availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which
worketh by love. 7. Ye did run well; who did hinder you
that ye should not obey the truth? 8. This persuasion
cometh not of him that calleth you. 9. A little
leaven leaveneth the whole lump. 10. I have confidence in
you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded:
but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever
he be. 11. And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision,
why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the
cross ceased. 12. I would they were even cut off which
trouble you. 13. For, brethren, ye have been called unto
liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the
flesh, but by love serve one another. 14. For all the law is
fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love
thy neighbour as thyself.
The promise was of the seed, that is, Christ,
and those who belong to Him, by faith. The promise given to
Abraham was for those circumcised and uncircumcised, for Jews
and Gentiles who walked by faith:
Romans 4:8-14
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. 9.
Cometh this blessedness then
upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision
also? for we say that
faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness. 10. How
was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in
uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in
uncircumcision. 11. And he received the sign of
circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which
he had yet being uncircumcised:
that he might be the father of all
them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that
righteousness might be imputed unto them also:
12. And
the father of circumcision to them who
are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the
steps of that faith of our father Abraham,
which he had being yet uncircumcised.
13. For the promise,
that he should be the heir of the world,
was not to Abraham, or to his seed,
through the law, but through
the righteousness of faith.
14. For if
they which are of the law be heirs, faith is
made void, and
the promise made of none effect:
Rom 4:21 And being fully persuaded
that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
23 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it
was imputed to him;
24 But for us also, to whom
it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up
Jesus our Lord from the dead;
25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised
again for our justification.
Since the the law is not of faith, and without
faith it is impossible to please God, regardless whether one is
circumcised or uncircumcised, and the law cannot bring
righteousness or justification, then there is a huge problem
with being under the law now that the New Covenant is here.
Gal 3:18
For if
the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of
promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.
So how do we reconcile Paul's statement that
the law is holy and good, therefore is still in effect,
according to Hebrew Roots and others.
Quite simply, the law of Moses was given by
God to teach the Israelites how to serve Him. But they were
still sinners just like the Gentiles, albeit God's chosen
people, which is why they had to have perpetual sin offerings.
Which is why Paul said in the rebuke to Peter, that even though
they were under the law, they were still found to be sinners.
They were still sinners even though they were doing all those
commandments and ordinances; doing all those things, they were
still found to be sinners, needing sin offerings. Because all
that they did in those commandments never made anyone
permanently righteous or clean before God. He said all
have sinned and fall short of His glory. Righteousness came only
through the promise of the seed, Jesus Christ. God always wanted
Israel to have faith like Abraham. He didn't care about the
offerings and sacrifices. He wanted their love and faith, which
would have led to obedience. The law was to teach them what sin
was, but they were born into sin, just like all mankind. The law
was put in place as Paul stated:
Gal 3:19 Wherefore then
serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions,
till the seed
should come to whom the promise was made;
and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God
forbid: for if there had been a law given which could
have given life, verily righteousness should have been
by the law.
22 But the
scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by
faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
23 But before faith came,
we were kept under the law,
shut up unto the
faith which should afterwards be revealed.
24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring
us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 But after
that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ
Jesus.
The law was put into place until the seed,
Jesus Christ, should come and then faith in Him confirmed the
law---that all were sinners, and it was to be by faith that
people would come to Christ, not by keeping the law of Moses.
The law was given because of sin. So the law was good because it
pointed to the need for Christ and the sin sacrifices proved
they were sinners, just like Gentiles, and needed God's
forgiveness.
Notice in verse 23, that Paul clarifies that
before faith came, they were "kept" under the law, "shut up unto
the faith" which was afterwards revealed. The phrase
"shut up" means enclosed, shut up on all sides, shut up
completely. They were kept and bound completely to the law,
before faith became the way. It was kept from them, until Christ
walked the earth. That is is why it was the schoolmaster, UNTIL
Christ, and faith in Him made them no longer under the law, that
is, that schoolmaster. Removing the requirement of keeping the
law of Moses was the foundation of the things that had separated
Jews and Gentiles. When the partition was removed, that was part
of it, removing the ideas of clean and unclean physically to be
focused on what faith in Christ made spiritually clean.
Gal 3:15 Brethren, I speak
after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant,
yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth
thereto.
Rom 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for
righteousness to every one that believeth.
Jesus confirmed and fulfilled the needs of the
law. And He came as a Jew in the flesh to confirm the promises
made to the fathers.
Rom 15:8 Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of
the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the
promises made unto the fathers:
Some are so determined to overturn these
truths that they then change the meaning of faith to being,
trust in God (YHWH) and His written commandments, but that never
even begins to translate into believing Christ and the New
Covenant. To them it means keeping the law of Moses.
However, faith is believing not only who God
is, all His promises, including blessings and judgments, and
believing that God has, will and is able to do all that He has
said, and believing Christ is God manifest in the flesh. It's
believing the Bible from Genesis 1:1 all the way through to
Revelation 22:21, and believing that as God promised the New
Covenant and provided salvation by His grace, to all who believe
in Jesus Christ, and those who do believe and live by that
faith, they will be with Him forever.
Paul defined faith with regards to Abraham and
believers in these ways:
Romans 4:20-22 He staggered not at the promise of God
through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to
God; 21. And being fully persuaded that, what he had
promised, he was able also to perform. 22. And therefore it
was imputed to him for righteousness.
Romans 5:1-2 Therefore being justified by
faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
2. By whom also we have access by
faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope
of the glory of God.
Romans 10:4-10 For Christ
is
the end of the law for righteousness to every one that
believeth. 5. For Moses
describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the
man which doeth those things shall live by them.
6. But the righteousness which is of faith
speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall
ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down
from above:)
7. Or, Who shall descend into the
deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)
8. But what saith it? The word is

even in thy mouth, and in thy
heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

Reading these various passages in context and
what we know in other passages, including the rebuke of Peter in
Galatians and also the council in Acts 15, it becomes much
clearer why the law was fulfilled by Christ, nailed to the
cross, and all those who believe Jesus Christ are no longer
under it. The destruction of the Temple finished it.
When God chose to offer salvation to all
mankind He had to show that not only were the Gentiles in need
of salvation--the Jews called them sinners and unclean---but the
Jews
were in need of salvation, because the law, commanded by God and
while perfect and good for the intent it was for, pointed to
Christ. The law and the prophets all pointed to Christ and
the promise of salvation for all, with the promise also of the
New Covenant and the awaited Messiah.
We are under the New Covenant, promised by God
and brought in by Jesus Christ and it holds all that we need to
declare Christ and be a witness for Him. And that includes
referring to the OT, which always pointed to Christ, and which
was FULFILLED by HIM --the Law and the Prophets---all of it.
That is also why Jesus said that He came to
fulfill the law and the prophets.
Matthew 5:17-18 Think not that I am come to destroy the
law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to
fulfil. 18. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth
pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the
law, till all be fulfilled.
Many,
including those who are kabbalists within the Hebrew
Roots movement, are
denying the blood atonement in favor of recurring animal
sacrifice and works, and claiming to be Torah Observant. The
Mosaic Law is based in the Levitical sacrificial system
whereby the breaking of those laws requires an animal
sacrifice. This was the old covenant. In the New
Covenant, the laws were simplified - written on the
heart - based in the blood of Christ which atoned for
all sin, once and for all. As Paul explained, the Mosaic
Law was written on stone, but the Law of Christ is the
Spirit of the Law which is fulfilled in love for God and
for one's neighbor.
Hebrew 10:8 Above
when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt
offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not,
neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by
the law;

The Apostle Paul wrote this,
concerning changing from the doctrine that he and the other

Some are teaching that
the New Testament is
merely "Yahshuah's interpretation of the Tenakh"
To be clear, they believe
that what Jesus spoke was merely an
"interpretation" of the Old Testament.
So when He said,
" A New Commandment I give unto you", it was
based on what? And when four books of the New
Testament, excluding excerpts in the other books and
also Revelation, were the ones that
record our Lord's words while He walked the earth, what is in the rest of the
Bible?
Ephesians
2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets,
Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
Ephesians 3:5 Which in
other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is
now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the
Spirit;
Jesus fulfilled the Scriptures
of the "law and the prophets". They were about Him. For
example:
Luke 4: 21 And he began to say unto them,
This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
.....24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Matthew 26:56 But
all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.
He was/is The Word. He was not an agent of God.
He is Immanuel, "God with us".
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light
of men....14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we
beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full
of grace and truth.
Because Jesus
fulfilled the Scriptures, being under the
"law", the judgment and retribution for breaking
it, are no longer physically or spiritually valid for
those who know Him. Paul wrote to the Ephesians and
Colossians that the law of commandments was abolished by
Christ, nailed to the cross.
Eph 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity,
even the law of commandments contained in
ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man,
so making peace; 16 And that he might reconcile both
unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity
thereby:
Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances
that was against us, which was contrary to us, and
took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
We see a presentation for living and obedience that are now and have
always been, relevant to Believers, but in the New
Testament. For example:
Ephesians 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his
neighbour: for we are members one of another.
26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
27 Neither give place to the devil.
28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather
let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he
may have to give to him that needeth.
29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of
your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may
minister grace unto the hearers.
Myth. The
bride of Messiah will only be those who have the correct "Hebraic" Name for God and
"Yahshua".
A. Jesus
never mentioned any such thing. All
those who know know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord are His
Bride. Since Yahshua is a made up name, those who follow that
are confused about who they obey.
Gal 3:1
O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should
not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been
evidently set forth, crucified among you?
Mark 12:29-31
And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments
is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: 30.

Matthew 22:36-40 Master, which is the great

Jesus taught the
disciples and us to pray by saying:

Isaiah 55:3-4 Incline your ear, and
come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will
make an everlasting covenant with you,
even
the sure mercies of David. 4. Behold,
I have given him
for a witness to the
people, a leader and commander to the people.
And from the New Testament, we see 1)God saying to hear
him, 2) Jesus saying His doctrine was the Father's 3) even those
in the grave would hear Him 4) those that heard Him would have
eternal life 5) those that heard Him, heard the Father
Mat 17:5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud
overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud,
which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well
pleased; hear ye him.
Luk 9:35 And there came a voice out of the
cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.
John 5:23-29 That all
men
should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He
that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which
hath sent him. 24. Verily, verily, I
say unto you, He
that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me,
hath everlasting life,
and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from
death unto life. 25.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and
now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of
God: and they that hear shall live. 26.
For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to
the Son to have life in himself; 27.
And hath given him authority to execute judgment also,
because he is the Son of man. 28.
Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which
all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
29. And shall come forth; they that have done
good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done
evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
Joh 5:30 I can of mine own self do
nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just;
because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father
which hath sent me.
John 5:46-47 For had ye believed Moses,
ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.
47. But if ye believe not his writings,
how shall ye believe my words?
John 7:14-19 Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went
up into the temple, and taught. 15. And the Jews marvelled,
saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?
16. Jesus answered them, and said,
My doctrine is not mine, but
his that sent me. 17. If any man will do his will, he shall
know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether
I speak of myself.
18. He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but
he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true,
and no unrighteousness is in him. 19. Did not Moses give you
the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go
ye about to kill me?
John 8:45-47 And because
I tell you the
truth, ye believe me not.
46. Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the
truth, why do ye not believe me? 47.
He that is of God heareth
God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye
are not of God.
John 3:31-36 He that cometh from above is above all:
he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the
earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all. 32.
And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and
no man receiveth his testimony. 33. He that hath received
his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true. 34.
For
he whom God
hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the
Spirit by measure unto him.
35. The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things
into his hand. 36. He that believeth on the Son hath
everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall
not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
John 12:44-50 Jesus cried and said,
He that believeth on me, believeth
not on me, but on him that sent me.
45. And he that seeth me
seeth him that sent me. 46.
I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth
on me should not abide in
darkness. 47.
And if any man hear my
words, and believe not, I
judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to

He that rejecteth me, and

Joh 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man

him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
Moses did not ever, nor could he say anything like this:
John 15:4-12 Abide in me, and I in you.
As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide
in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5. I am the vine, ye
are
the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the
same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do

Joh 18:37 Pilate therefore said unto him,

that I should bear witness

Acts 3:22-24 For Moses truly said unto
the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto
you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all
things whatsoever he shall say unto you. 23.

every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be
destroyed from among the people.

Hebrews 1:1-8
God, who at sundry times and
in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the

unto us by

Son, whom he
hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the
worlds; 3. Who
being the brightness of
his
glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding
all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself
purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty
on high; 4. Being made so much
better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a
more excellent name than they. 5. For
unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my
Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to
him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? 6.
And again,
when he bringeth in the
firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the
angels of God worship him.
7. And of the
angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his
ministers a flame of fire. 8.
But unto the Son
he saith, Thy throne,
O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of
righteousness is
the sceptre of thy kingdom.
Heb 2:3 How shall we escape, if we
neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be
spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that
heard him;
Heb 3:7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith,
To day if ye will hear his voice, 8
Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of
temptation in the wilderness:
When Jesus said “But I say to
you” in Matthew 5:22-48, that is exactly what He meant
Hebrews 3:1-8 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the
heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of
our profession, Christ Jesus; 2. Who was faithful to him
that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his
house. 3. For this man was
counted
worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
4. For every house is builded by some man; but
he that built all things is God.
5. And Moses verily was faithful in all his house,
as a
servant,
for a testimony of those things which were to be
spoken after; 6. But Christ as a
son over his own house; whose house are we, if we
hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm
unto the end.
Jesus fulfilled the Scriptures. They were about Him. For
example:
Luke
4: 21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture
fulfilled in your ears.
.....24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the
prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things
concerning himself.
Matthew
26:56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might
be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.
He was/is The Word. He was not an agent of God.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light
of men....14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we
beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full
of grace and truth.
